New Dexa

Dual Emission X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA or DEXA) is also referred to as Bone Mineral Densitometry. This scan measures the level of certain minerals in bones to give an indication of the strength of bones and the likelihood of fracture or bone disintegration. Your doctor may suggest you undergo this scan to screen for indicators of osteoporosis (brittle bones). Low bone mineral density is present when the bone (organ) mineral density falls more than 1.5 standard deviations below the age matched mean or more than 2.5 standard deviations below the young normal mean at the same site and in the same gender. Bone densitometry services are available on the basis of referral by a medical practitioner. Many clinical indicators are covered under Medicare and do not incur a GAP, some other clinical indications for DEXA do not attract Medicare rebates. You will be advised when booking your appointment. This is accessible to the community at Maroondah Hospital |
